Understanding The Mind Body Connection
Womens health wellness asks,
"How do you view your body and your mind?" Do you see
them as two separate entities minding there own business?
Or do you see them working together as one complimenting each
other?
Science now
proves this mind body connection exists. Our
bodies respond to the way we think, feel and act. It has
been proven over and over again that stress and anxiety
contribute too many health issues. Our negative
thoughts and unhappiness all takes a toll on our body
from lowering our immune system to high blood pressure
to triggering many health issues.
I believe we only need to
reflect on our lives to know this mind body connection
relationship is always at play. The key is to gain
awareness and listen to our bodies and our emotions. When
we are experiencing discomfort in the body it is trying to get
our attention to let us know something is out of whack.
The same is true when we feel emotional disturbances.
Both are acting as a guiding system. Our bodies and our
minds are providing us with information so we
can make better choices.
Creating a healthy
balanced emotional state is key to our body performing
optimally. This has become our biggest challenge
with life in the 21st century. The demands, stress
and pressure we experience daily have our nervous systems on
over load. Because of this we fall short in the areas of
prevention, wellness, weight control and stress
management.
Self care must
become our priority because without our health not much
else matters. Any one who has dealt with a health
issue knows this to be the truth. The first thing we
can do to become aware of our mind body connection is
listen. Start to observe your thoughts and
emotions. Start to observe how your body is
feeling. What is calling out for your
attention? Practices you can participate in to
develop your awareness of your mind body connection
are:
Meditation - Take 10 - 20
minutes daily to turn within focusing on your breath.
Your breath is the thread between your physical and emotional
states. Give your self this time to slow your mind and
your nervous system down. Meditation will lead you to
your authentic self. You will own, honor and be in
control of your emotions. You will no longer be in denial
of your feelings, or immobilized by
them.
Yoga - Yoga aims to
unit the mind, body and spirit through movement, breath and
holding postures. It builds strength, balance,
flexibility and endurance. Yoga is an ‘inside job’ that
results in real transformation. There are many forms of
yoga to choose from. Find a class that best suits your
needs and start today.
Diet - We are what we
eat! Eating healthy contributes to our overall health
and feeling
of well being. From
having more energy, to being more mentally focused
and clear, to having a better handle on our
emotions. We need to be eating super foods!
Please see the articles on carbohydrate sensitivity and glycemic
index to understand more
fully what a healthy diet entails.
Understanding and
participating in our mind body connection not only increases
our physical and emotional
wellness but our
spiritual wellness. Womens
health wellness encourages
you to let your mind and body become your internal guidance
system to optimal health.
